Event: A Magic Christmas
Church: St Andrew's Cronulla
When: Sunday 17th December, 9:30am
The activities: A family service to celebrate the end of year for Sunday school. Gary Kemp aka Mr Magic gave his testimony and used magic tricks to illustrate the Christmas story.
Where: St Andrew's church building
Attendance: 120 people, including 40 guests.
Elements that worked best
"Lots of the grandparents who normally come to the service invited their children and grandchildren we had double-generational evangelism taking place," says the rector of St Andrew's, the Rev Richard Humphrey. "It was good having a different kind of event for people to invite friends and family too."
"We also made sure that it wasn't too different to a regular service so that guests who choose to come back will know what to expect," he says.
What could be improved?
"We should have commenced planning earlier and given people a month rather than two weeks notice so more people could be invited. We didn't get a lot of publicity out for it and it is always a hectic time before Christmas," Mr Humphrey says.
"Also, a lot of the families who normally come to church were not present because it was school holiday time."
