Your Super Plan can have real impact " and not just for you in retirement. Carefully managed, it can make a great difference to the people directly influenced by organisations with whom your super is invested. How is this achieved?
Through a coalition of likeminded investment managers and through membership of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia, Anglican National Super benefits from pooled investment research resources, volume investment scale, direct engagement and some of the top investment houses in the world, including European and USA specialists in ethical and social responsible investments.
Through AMP's accredited Sustainable Responsible Investment (SRI) program, we have engaged the following organisations to manage parts of our investment portfolio.
Henderson Global Investors
In 2007 Henderson Global Investors has focused on climate change through engagement with governments, industry and other investors including a Carbon Disclosure Project and Biofuel sector investment opportunities, participation in the nuclear power debate plus involvement in determining the investment risks and opportunities for adapting to climate change.
Boston Common
Boston Common has been active in the area of Occupational Health and Safety particularly in the automotive industry. Organisations have been encouraged to sign the Automotive Industry Action Group initiative, addressing issues such as bonded labour. Similar activities are being undertaken with the IT industry, textile apparel and retail companies. Boston Common is part of a coalition of US investors that actively engages over 100 global companies to ensure they do not use Uzbekistan Cotton, which uses extensive forced and child labour in planting and harvesting cotton.
AMP will also participate in these dialogues. Many multinational companies are developing programmes in these areas to identify and monitor issues of worker safety, human rights and child labour particularly with their second and third tier suppliers.
Through corporate philanthropy and support from investment houses, the hard questions are being asked and backed up with research and action.
Global and local benefits
In partnership with AMP, your Superannuation Plan is part of the global charter for responsible investment. Our efforts are directed towards making better investment selections, working with the organisations in whom we invest to get a better outcome, often effecting significant corporate change as a result.
Anglican National Super has also ensured that its members are well considered with strong investment returns that will contribute to a sound retirement. SRI also applies to a commitment to the quality of the return and this has been excellent over the Plan's 40+ years of operations.
For the past 12 years we have achieved an investment return to members of over 1% per annum above the average balanced fund return. That is real quality.
Who can join Anglican National Super?
Plan membership is available to every person (along with their spouse and family members) employed with an Anglican Organisation or a select group of like-minded Christian organisations.
