With the federal election looming, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, have announced that they will address Australian churches via a web-cast on June 21.
"Make it Count 2010' will also give 200 Christian leaders an opportunity to have Mr Rudd and Mr Abbott answer their questions. The event will be broadcast to churches around the country from Old Parliament House in Canberra.
Hosted by the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), it will be similar to an event held in 2007 where John Howard and Kevin Rudd addressed 100,000 Christians.
Jim Wallace, Managing Director of ACL, believes that Christians have been given a great opportunity to hear from our nation's leaders and to have their opinions heard.
"This is a unique chance for Christians to hear first-hand from the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader about how the party being chosen to govern would affect the character of our nation," he said. "It also provides an opportunity to hear their responses to questions which often fall under the radar of mainstream election coverage."
The event will be web-cast to congregations around the country from 7pm-9:30pm (EST) on June 21, with a delayed broadcast at 7:30pm in Western Australia.
To boost the event's profile and to emphasize the importance of the Christian constituency, the ACL is hoping that triple the number of churches will be involved in 2010.
"We need to be influencing all political parties to develop well-considered policy initiatives and a vision for Australia that engenders an increasingly moral and caring society," Wallace said.

To cover the cost of the web-cast, churches will be charged a $110 fee.
