Queensland Christians will enjoy a taste of theology from across the border as Moore College holds its 11th interstate lecture series this long weekend.
The Moore Queensland Conference, now in its eighth year, will be held at Grace College, the University of Queensland from Saturday 11th to Monday 13th June.
Richard Gibson will teach Mark's gospel while Michael Jensen will speak on the topic of Christian humanism.
It is the only annual Moore College conference held outside Sydney.
Director of External Studies Elizabeth Smith says the aim is to support the hundreds of External Studies students in Queensland " the largest number outside of New South Wales " and raise awareness of popular correspondence course the Preliminary Theological Certificate (PTC).
"We've had a number of graduates go to Queensland who want their people to go along and hear good teaching," she says. "It's encouraging for them."
The External Studies Department provides courses for around 4000 students in 55 countries.
Michael Jensen says the event is an opportunity for those doing a correspondence course to "get a taste for studying at Moore longer term' and for lay people to gain more confidence in their faith.
A keen Queensland supporter is the Minister of North Pine Baptist Church, Andrew Prince.
"We really appreciate the college being willing to invest up here," says Mr Prince, who graduated from Moore in 2002.
"Brisbane has a small evangelical network and this is one of the key conferences," he says. "As a graduate it's wonderful to have this kind of contact with the faculty. One of the drawbacks is that Moore College is so far away."
He says the network of Moore graduates includes those in Presbyterian and Baptist churches and the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
The network has spawned several other preaching conferences, including the new Brisbane Bible Talks, all modelled on the successful Katoomba Christian Conventions.
