Allan Dowthwaite, CEO of Anglican Media Sydney, has resigned to take up a new role with independent think-tank and media organisation the Centre for Public Christianity (CPX).

After six years in the top job he will leave Anglican Media in June.

Mr Dowthwaite has been appointed to the newly created position of Chief Executive and Media Director of CPX.

"After two and a half years establishing CPX, John [Dickson] and Greg [Clarke] now need someone to concentrate on business development, management issues and media strategy."

"I'll also be driving the development of new products similar to the Life of Jesus course."

Asked for his biggest achievements at Anglican Media, he said, "Developing a strong web presence for the Diocese through Sydneyanglicans.net and the production of The Christ Files DVD and TV documentary".

In 2008 Mr Dowthwaite was awarded the Pilgrim International Media Prize for his work on The Christ Files.

He said he was also proud of the way Anglican Media’s flagship publication Southern Cross had moved from being "a newspaper focused mainly on Anglican politics to being a mission and ministry focused publication that has more relevance to the average Sydney Anglican church member".

Mr Dowthwaite has 22 years experience in Christian and secular media work.

He has spent the past decade in management positions within Anglicare and Anglican Media, and is a long-time active member of St Paul's, Castle Hill.
