The Archbishop of Sydney issued a statement of welcome to Bishop Anthony Fisher, named as the successor to Cardinal George Pell as Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney.
I welcome the announcement by Pope Francis that Bishop Anthony Fisher is to become the next Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney. We already know each other, having both served as bishops in Sydney for some time.
Bishop Fisher is an able scholar with a specialist interest in moral theology and bioethics. He has worked in the common cause of Christian churches in this city to strengthen family life and to defend marriage.
I look forward to working with him as we seek to see Christ honoured as Lord throughout Sydney.
