To this end, our values are:

  • GOSPEL CENTRED – all we do comes from knowing, understanding and applying the Gospel.
  • COMMUNITY ON MISSION – serving one another, spurring one another on to love and good deeds – AND welcoming others as we seek to take the gospel to our community.
  • RENEWAL – seeking Gospel renewal and change.
  • PRAYER – humbly dependent on God.
  • SPIRITUAL MATURITY – seeking a deep and spirit-filled understanding of who God is from the Bible.

Where we are

Clarence South Anglican is situated on the Eastern shore of the Derwent River, taking up the southern reaches of the City of Clarence in Hobart, Tasmania.

Geographically the Parish encompasses everything south of Pass Road and the Eastern outlet to the South Arm peninsula, with the main parish centre at St Thomas’, Howrah (11 kilometres or 15 minute drive from Hobart).

About the Parish

There’s a great opportunity in the Parish due to the rapid growth and expansion in population, with many families moving into the area looking for a church that is Christ-centred, welcoming, and provides ministry to families and workers. A significant housing development of up to 2500 new homes in the neighbouring suburb of Tranmere/Droughty Point is taking place in stages over the next 30 years.

There are two Sunday services. At traditional service at 8:30am of around 30-40 adults approximately 50 years and over attend this Holy Communion service, based on A Prayer Book for Australia with lively traditional hymns. Many members are actively involved in the life of the Parish beyond Sunday and in recent years there has been a growth in regular committed attendance at this service.

The Renew congregation at 10:30am is a congregational plant within Clarence South Anglican, formed out of the previous 10:30am contemporary service and the 2pm Chinese congregation. Translation in Mandarin and Cantonese is currently offered.

Kids’ Church is held concurrently with the service with a children’s song as part of the main service before the children head out. Currently, we have around 30 members.

About the Diocese

Bishop Richard Condie, the current Bishop, wants making disciples of Jesus to be at the core of everything we do. He also highly values training and support for church leaders – this includes each ministry leader in the Diocese having a Professional Supervisor, being in a cohort with others at the same life/ministry stage, and money and time given from the parish for professional development each year.

The current group of clergy/ministry leaders (about 80 in total) meet together twice a year and are highly supportive of each other in gospel partnership.
