When teachers Victoria Woodhouse and Julie Morrison wanted to teach their students the Bible this year, they could only find a 20-minute recess break to do it in. But keen to tell the students of Pittwater House Junior School about Jesus, they thought even just a few minutes a week was worth it. And they say it has made an impact.
“At first we weren’t sure if anyone would come along”, Victoria said ‘but now between 30 and 40 kids voluntarily give up their recess break every week to hear a story from the Bible and pray. We work hard at making it interesting with heaps of visual aids and the kids have heaps of questions and are genuinely wanting to find out more. When the group first started, the kids had very little knowledge of what the Bible said and what God was like. But we’ve seen God working in their lives and their understanding about Him really change.”
Their group is one of over 90 such groups meeting in independent primary and high schools in NSW, managed by the Crusader Union of Australia. This year groups have started at Scone Grammar, Hills Grammar, Mosman Preparatory, SCEGGS Redlands and Trinity Grammar School.
Crusaders Executive Director Gary Hill said the groups “reach over 25,000 kids each year…by going to the place where virtually 100 per cent of kids can be found each day.”
