The 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours feature people who have served Sydney Anglican school communities as well as honours for community and business contributions.
Michael Crouch, 84, a member of Darling Point Anglican Church, was recognised for his long service to the community and wide-ranging philanthropic contributions.
Mr Crouch, former CEO of the water heater company, Zip Industries, and a prolific cattle breeder, was made a Companion of the Order of Australia
Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia were Robert Erskine, of Hunters Hill, honoured for service to the community and Beverley Dykes of Northmead.
Mr Erskine is a former President of the Parents and Friends and Committee of Arden Anglican School and member of the Kings School Father's Association.
Richard Tighe, of Fairlight, a member of the Manly church was awarded an OAM for service to sailing, to youth development, and to the community.
Mrs Dykes (below), a member of Carlingford Anglican Church for more than 35 years, has had extensive involvement in the Anglican Board of Mission, including as a member of the executive and leadership roles in Mothers Union.
For three decades, Mrs Dykes has taken part in Mother's Union ministry offering support for people attending Parramatta Family and Children’s Court.
“My work in the courts, it’s such a simple thing ... you’re not counselling anyone, you’re just being there to provide them with a warm or cool drink,” she told the Hills Shire Times, adding that being there for people to talk to, and cry with, was important. "We use a lot of tissues" she told the newspaper.
The Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove, approved 891 awards in the Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours List recognising a diverse range of contributions and service across all fields, including professional endeavours, community work, Australia’s Defence Force and Emergency Services.
“To all recipients, I offer my deepest congratulations, admiration and respect for your contribution to our nation,” the Governor-General said.
