Profile

Bishop Richards was consecrated in July 2019, as the Bishop for International Relations. He succeeded Bishop Peter Tasker who has held the position since its inauguration in 2009.

Bishop Richards worked as an Optometrist in Canberra before applying to CMS to serve in Zaire in the area of youth work and evangelism. After two terms with CMS, he returned to Australia to complete his studies at Moore Theological College. Following eight years in parish ministry, including the establishment of an evangelical church in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, he and his wife Elizabeth returned to DR Congo (Zaire) to set up a Bible School in the Diocese of Kindu. He is fluent in Swahili and speaks some French.

Following this time in DR Congo, Bishop Richards served as General Secretary of the CMS NSW & ACT for eight years.  As well as the role of Bishop for International Relations, Bishop Richards serves as the Director of the Centre for Global Mission at Moore College and is the Chair of the Archbishop of Sydney’s Anglican Aid.

Bishop Richards has three adult children and seven grandchildren.
