Christian organisations have started to push for end-of-financial-year donations, with less a week to go before the new financial year.
Both Anglican Aid and CMS have written to donors, with CMS setting a target of $1.4 million.
CMS particularly mentions mission in the Muslim world where the missionary group says living as a Christian is increasingly risky, but where many are coming to faith.
The website says the latest total is more than $850,000.
The Archbishop of Sydney's Anglican Aid has appealed for more than a quarter of a million dollars to meet the needs of its development and ministry project commitments in the new year.
Anglican Aid director David Mansfield said many Anglican Aid partnerships, ironically, may be affected by the recent Horn of Africa appeal.
“Because the Emergency Famine Appeal was so successful, for which we are deeply grateful, we have seen a drop in giving to our ongoing project commitments. This has put Anglican Aid in a position where we need to receive up to $300,000 in the last week of this financial year some of those projects and commitments will not be able to be funded.”
Mr Mansfield has urged people not to restrict their giving to emergency appeals and to put money aside for regular international programmes.
