Anglican Parish changes mind over wedding reception option
Anglican Parish changes mind over wedding reception option
MEDIA RELEASE on behalf of St Peter's Watson's Bay
12 January 2007
The Anglican Parish of Watson's Bay has abandoned plans for any wedding receptions in their future building refurbishment.
The Rev Cliff Parish, rector of St Peter's, Watson's Bay, announced yesterday that the church was removing any reference to a wedding reception facility in its Development Application concerning the proposed refurbishment of its parish hall.
The parish of Watson's Bay is seeking to turn the old and run down hall (not, as mistakenly reported in Monday's press, the beautiful old church) into a more effective centre for church services, minister's offices and meetings.
It had also intended to allow the refurbished hall to be used occasionally for receptions for some of the couples married at the church. However, Mr Parish said that with further reflection, the churchwardens and he had decided that this was unnecessary and not central to the church's mission and purpose.
There has also been local community concern about the possibility of wedding receptions being held at that particular location. "We are here to serve our neighbours in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ," Mr Parish said. "We have listened to the community."
