Thanksgiving Service on the occasion of 200 years since the arrival of William Cowper in Australia

William Cowper stepped ashore in Sydney on 18th August 1809 with the fledgling city unaware that he was to become a pioneer in the life and community of Sydney whose influence continues today.
A Civic Thanksgiving Service for his life and work will be held in St Phillip's Church Hill where he ministered, and where his children were nurtured, educated, and grew up to play their part in the story of Australia.
The event is part of a week of celebrations marking the bicentenary of Cowper’s arrival in Australia.
The service will be attended by descendants and dignitaries of the city as it is today including NSW Governor Professor Marie Bashir AC,CVO.
Anglican Archbishop Dr Peter Jensen will give the address.
