Special Cathedral service to celebrate Anglican Schools

A Celebration of Anglican Schooling

The Anglican Education Commission

A special service " "A Celebration of Anglican Schooling' - to celebrate the work and ministry of Anglican Schools in the Diocese of Sydney will be held in St Andrew's Cathedral at 5.00pm today.

Dr Peter Jensen, the Archbishop of Sydney, will speak on the topic "Australian Democracy and our Christian Faith".

Heads of Schools, teachers and School Council members from the 40 Anglican Schools in the Diocese of Sydney will be present at the service.

In 2007 there are 40 Anglican Schools in the Diocese of Sydney, employing well over 4,000 staff and educating more than 35,000 students.

Bishop Glenn Davies, who is the Bishop of North Sydney and also the Chairman of the Anglican Education Commission (AEC), will lead the service.

"Executive Director of the AEC, Dr Bryan Cowling said, "The education provided in an Anglican School is characterised by intellectual rigour, openness to ideas and debate, mutual respect, and good citizenship as members of the Australian and international community. Anglican schools have a respect for history and tradition as well as a strong commitment to the future."
