Statement from Head of St Andrew’s Cathedral School

The Head of St Andrew’s Cathedral School, Phillip Heath, has requested the following statement be posted on his behalf.

Personal Statement

In the light of a recent media report, I believe it is necessary to make a personal statement regarding my appointment to Radford College, Canberra.

After 14 wonderful years at St Andrew's Cathedral School and following a period of prayerful reflection I have decided that a season for change has arrived. This has been a painful decision for me because I love the School, its community and its brilliant Cathedral setting. Yet this is the right time for the School and, I believe, for me.

I have an abiding admiration and firm commitment to the Diocese of Sydney in which I have served in various Anglican Schools throughout my career in education. I regard Anglican schools as one of the best means of building bridges into the community and I consider participation by clergy in the life of our Anglican schools to be of the utmost importance.

The support and encouragement of the Archbishop of Sydney is something that I will miss. He has been a magnificent support to the School and to me during these past years and I shall always be thankful for his leadership and encouragement.

Likewise, the Dean of Sydney, the Reverend Phillip Jensen, in his leadership of the Cathedral and in his participation in School governance has stood strongly with the School in all its work. I consider it a privilege to have shared so closely with him. He has been personally supportive in every aspect of my work and I admire him greatly.

Phillip Heath, Head of St Andrew's Cathedral School.
