Church leaders suffering from a mid-ministry crisis or who are lacking in energy for their work are being given the opportunity to receive ‘life giving teaching’.
Oxygen is a conference for church leaders from around Australia and will feature well-known Christian thinkers and speakers, John Piper and John Lennox.
The electives for the conference have recently been announced. The 16 options for attendees fit into three topics: helping leaders cope with the challenges of ministry, helping leaders get revitalized and encouraging leaders to engage with the task that God has given them.
“The electives help refresh leaders in gospel ministry but also care for spouses,” said KCC Chairman Al Stewart. “They cover a range of areas from prolonged stress, loneliness, balancing ministry and family, and leading a team effectively.”
The electives will complement the nation-wide aspect of the conference by featuring evangelical leaders from all across Australia, sharing their expertise and knowledge with attendees.
“We’ve drawn key men and women from every state of Australia with pastoral leadership experience in these areas to present electives at Oxygen 11,” Rev Stewart said.
John Lennox will be among the elective leaders. Other leaders include: Paul and Sue Harrington, Ray Galea, Philip Jensen, Mike Raiter, Claire Smith, Andrew Heard, John and Megan Best, Bruce Hall and many others.
The aim of Oxygen is to give church leaders an opportunity to take a break from their busy lives to be taught themselves from the word of God.
“We’re keen that people continue to find it a joy to keep working for Jesus,” said Rev Stewart.
Piper to speak at one-off Sydney event
John Piper will also speak to an estimated 10,000 people at the Sydney Entertainment Center at an event entitled ‘1’.
KCC hopes the event the event will challenge people to consider the question ‘am I wasting my life?’
John Lennox will also speak at the event about reasons for faith. Mr Lennox has debated a number of prominent athesits and he will offer his advice and knowledge on why there are still reasons for faith in today’s world.
“1 is one night you will not forget. Piper will share a vision of the glory of God from the Scriptures and Lennox will show why we’d be foolish not to trust in the risen Lord Jesus,” Rev Stewart said.
With the tag-line ‘One savior, one life for one night, don’t waste it’ ‘1’ will be held on Wednesday, August 31.
“Two and a half years ago we filled the Entertainment Centre, it was a wonderful thing to sing the praises of Jesus with 10 000 people,” Rev Stewart said.
