David Ould is one of six new student ministers that Evangelism Ministries is taking on board in 2007.

The fourth year Moore College student says this role will be fresh opportunity to talk to many people about Jesus.

"Number one, it's a job that allows you to get out there and talk to people about Jesus who have probably never heard about him. Coming from the UK, it's also a good way to see more of Sydney," David admits.

Evangelism Ministries CEO Jim Ramsay has employed six Moore College students to train in 2007: Steve and Naomi Chong, Thora Judge, David Skirving, Luther Symons and David Ould.

"It's the first time we have taken on six catechists. It's an indicator that there are many people out there who want to hone their skills and gain more experience in evangelistic preaching," Mr Ramsay says.

"We make sure we always have several women on team because the opportunities to speak to women's groups are often more prevalent than men's. We need as many women trained as possible."

David Ould believes that this new role will help him practice his preaching.

"I guess I am a bit of a preacher so I am happy to do more preaching than in the usual student minister role," he says.

"However, you don't get as much of the pastoral side. I think this role will be full one-off conversations, which has its limitations."

The new role is a fresh start for David that appears to suit his personality and gifts.

"I'm going to find out if this specific role is something I want to do long term. Preaching is something I love doing. I am an outgoing person, although my friends would just call me noisy," he jokes.

David says prayer helped him to choose this role then "get on with' the work at hand.

"I prayed about this decision but no more or less than I would for any thing else in life. I just prayed that I and the team at Evangelism Ministries would make the right choice and then got on with doing the work," David says.

"I'm not big on the theology of "a calling'. Rather, I think the Bible speaks about a person desiring certain things. You should pray about those things and test those things. It's also helpful to see if older, wiser Christians encourage you in certain directions."
