Many Sydney Anglicans have been enthusiastic about initiating relationships in their communities this year but the work is far from over, Synod was told last night.
Andrew Nixon, Director of Connect09, told Synod "we have to press on" beyond 2009 if we hope to see Sydney Anglican churches grow over the next five or 10 years. "With man " impossible," he said, "with God " possible."
After hearing startling figures about the numbers of resources handed out during the year " including one million copies of the Essential Jesus and 177 000 copies of Colin Buchanan’s children’s DVD " a contingent from All Saints Waitara told Synod of their efforts to connect with their community.
Rector of All Saints, the Rev Bruce Stanley said one third of his church of 100 adults door-knocked 1800 homes over five weeks.
"It’s hard to describe the feeling of being in your own street and looking across the road and seeing a team of people from your church door-knocking your neighbours," he said.
