Archbishop Peter Jensen has thanked Sydney Anglicans for their prayers and support and asked them to pray for the Anglican Communion.
Dr Jensen will leave for the Global Anglican Future Conference later this month, and has revealed he has written to the Archbishop of Canterbury assuring him of his prayers for him and for the success of the Lambeth Conference.
The Global Anglican Future Conference begins in Jerusalem on June 22nd, after several days of consultations in Jordan between leaders and bishops from majority-Muslim countries.
More than 60 delegates will fly from Australia to Jerusalem, joining 1,000 bishops, clergy and lay people from around the world.
The Lambeth conference takes place in July.
Dr Jensen and the Sydney Bishops will not attend Lambeth, but the Archbishop says people should pray for both the Global Anglican Future Conference and Lambeth.
Referring to his letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Jensen said “We have different views on how best to see the future of the Anglican Communion at this time. But we are at one in seeking its good health and doing what can be done to make sure that the turmoil created by those who have set aside fundamental Christian teaching does not destroy it.”
“On the contrary, our aim should be to see it united as never before in the service of Christ in this world.” he continued. “I am praying that both the Lambeth Conference and the Jerusalem Conference will help achieve that goal.”
