Organisers suspect the topic is the reason behind the record turnout for Archbishop Peter Jensen's lecture series on the Holy Spirit.
Tonight's lecture, the second of the annual series, has had to be moved to a different location due to last week's packed house.
"I think the increase in numbers is the result of two factors: the popularity of the Archbishop's lectures and also, I believe the subject of the Holy Spirit is one of ongoing interest to many Christian people and has raised the interest level across the region," says Archdeacon of North Sydney, Terry Dein.
People were perched on steps in the Peter Duly Concert Hall at Abbotsleigh Anglican School for Girls last Wednesday night as an audience of around 420 listened intently to the Archbishop delivering his introductory lecture, "A Spirit of Revelation".
"We have never had a crowd of that size and it was a safety issue," Mr Dein says.
Tonight, the crowd is expected to be more comfortably accommodated in the Abbotsleigh assembly hall for the second of the three lectures, "The Spirit of Unification".
Understanding the Spirit of truth
In last week's lecture, "The Spirit of Revelation", Dr Jensen said the best way of gaining an understanding of the Holy Spirit was through the Scriptures.
"If the Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth, think how you can depend on the Bible," Dr Jensen said.
"If you get the big picture straight, you won't be led astray as easily by the details of Scripture."
Dr Jensen also spoke warmly of the searching nature of a "finding God" who will "turn the universe upside down" to find the lost.
Dr Jensen admitted that Sydney Anglican churches haven't been as active in teaching about the Holy Spirit as they could be, but also cautioned that those who talk a lot about the Holy Spirit are not necessarily experts.
Following the talk, the Archbishop answered questions from the audience on prophesy and the trustworthiness of an individual "word from God'.
The final lecture, “The Spirit of Sanctification” will be held on Wednesday night, February 27.
