Tribute concerts are often held at the end of a singer's career, but Rob Smith is adamant his upcoming concert will not be his last.
Smith, one of Australia’s leading writers of contemporary hymns and congregational songs, will lead a night of praise at the new St Barnabas Broadway to encourage Christians to respond to God’s grace by singing his word with hearts full of thanksgiving.
Some of his most popular songs include: ‘Thanksgiving’, ‘In Jesus’ name we trust’, ‘New song in my heart’ and ‘Undivided’.
"A few months back couple of good friends came to me and said: 'We think you should put on a concert where you lead us singing the songs you've written over the years, and talk to us about why you wrote the songs, why singing is important and that sort of thing. I said that I'd feel more comfortable with the idea if I shared the stage with a number of friends. So that's how the idea started."
So after two and a half decades of music making, Rob Smith will lead the New Song in my Heart concert on Saturday 21st of July on the spot where, before the fire, he was converted, worked and was married.
“Through music and song I hope to inspire God’s people to love and serve the Lord who laid down his life for them”, says Mr Smith.
“I am looking forward to sharing the evening with some special friends, like Nicky Chiswell and Greg Cooper, who have greatly helped me during the course of my music ministry.”
Smith started his musical career as a teenager with 'The Affections’ , before playing internationally with ‘The Innocents’ and recording his own CD’s. He is also known for his performances with the Beatnix, a beatles tribute band.
