I’ve just got back from the first of the Inspiring People events. It was a great breakfast with an engaging panel - Justice Ken Handley, Anne Robinson, Colin Buchanan, and John Dickson.
It was the kind of event you would happily bring your unchurched workmates to.
I am always a little fearful of events like this - wondering if there will be something cringey being said. Not so here. Each of the panelists spoke about their Christian faith in an unapologetic genuine and humble way. One theme that developed quite naturally in the conversation was that of the place of humility and service. Those interested in finding out more were then invited to take part in a Life of Jesus course.
The City Bible Forum crew are well practised in speaking to the city workers, in a way that is neither patronising nor assumes people are churched or biblically literate.
I am shamelessly using my post this week to promote the Inspiring People campaign. Nothing subtle here - just want you to click through and register.

Forty high profile Christian men and women will be appearing in 15 different panel events in our city’s CBDs from September 15 to October 15.
The events will be during breakfast, lunch and after work in the Sydney CBD, Parramatta, North Sydney & Wollongong. The panelists will be interviewed about their life stories - their struggles, their achievements and how the Lord Jesus inspires them to live for him.
Boost for parish ministry
What has this got to do with ministry in your average suburban parish? Well chances are people in your church and suburb are part of the 300,000 that work in the CBD. The CBD is the natural place for city workers to ‘connect’ - it is where they spend most of their waking hours, it is where lives are lived.
I’m heading back in for lunch tomorrow. I know it is short notice but don’t miss this great opportunity before us.
If you are a city worker why not get a table together with people at work?
Think about who you might connect with.
