The Connect09 team is praying that over 8 000 teens fill the Sydney Entertainment Centre for a major outreach event in December, and that many turn to Christ.
"It's an opportunity for Christian teenagers to invite their not-yet-Christian friends to something big, something inspirational," said Andrew Nixon, Executive Director of Connect09.
Church leaders across Sydney are being asked to bring their young people to participate in Live Out Loud on December 4, the culmination of the Connect09 youth strategy.
It will feature Christian rock bands Revive and Qurious, and speaker Steve Chong.
"The call to commit to Jesus will be crystal clear," Mr Nixon said.
Mr Nixon said the response from youth groups so far has been positive.
"Overwhelmingly, they are just excited to be part of it."
30 new high schools reached
Thanks to the Connect09 youth strategy, over 30 new schools have run Scripture seminars for the first time.
"One state high school in the inner-west ran a week long mission with daily seminars," Mr Nixon said. "They handed out over one thousand Mark's gospels."
He explained the driving force of the mission week was senior students at the school.
"Now their aim is to get every student at the high school along to the Live Out Loud event."
But these are not one-off efforts, providing opportunities for follow-up ministries within the schools.
Mr Nixon sees these seminars as "a beachhead", the start of an ongoing effort by the people committed to the school community.
